Earlier today Jay, The Phoenix Real Estate Guy did a terrific and much needed post about raising the bar for entry into the real estate biz >It is Past Time to Raise the Bar!
Aside from writing a terrific piece, Jay is obviously in the groove, prescient, maybe even a swami.
Because later today the East Bay Business Times- of Pleasonton CA.- reported that Governor Schwarzenegger had just signed a bill to increase the amount of classroom time required before someone can persue getting a real estate license in California.
"There has been quite an influx of new agents into the marketplace over the past several years which has eroded the quality of service, the level of services and the professionalism in the industry," said Alex Creel, chief lobbyist for California Association of Realtors, which sponsored the legislation.

At the very least this is recognition that there's a problem. Who's next?
Interesting! I was just telling Arnie the other day he needed to do something in California. :)
I honestly had no idea CA was considering anything. I'm just glad I beat Arnie to the news!
I believe (but am not certain) that CA is one of the states that allows agents to get a broker's license with little to no experience. At least in AZ you have to have three years with a sales license before you can sit for a brokers exam.
But every little step, in any state, is a step forward.
